Falls Festival @ Byron Bay, 2015

Byron Bay played host to the Falls Music and Arts Festival to ring in the new year.
These shots cover all three days of music at this beautiful festival.

Shot by Kerrie Geier for The AU Review.

About the shoot: I have shot many single day festivals before, even a few multi day festivals, but never a camping festival! I travelled up from Adelaide with my partner, and knowing that I would likely be exhausted after some long days we paid extra to stay in some fancy tent with a proper bed, and it was totally worth it. I always find it hard shooting in a different state. I’m shy and often spend a lot of the time on my own without anyone to really engage with. There were a lot of photographers at the event, so when it came to the last few acts of each day the photo pit was packed. An interesting experience during Foals set closing out one of the days: instead of the first three songs we were only allowed to shoot the last three songs, however the crowd was pretty rowdy, there were about 30 photographers in the pit along with the security guards trying to pull punters out of the crowd and after 1 song all of the photographers got booted out of the pit because it was too unsafe having us there. Another reason that you have to try and get the best shots you, when you can – you never know what is going to happen. The main stage was extremely high and so you could barely see the drummer in most of the bands – there was no point in even trying to use my wide lens from the pit. It was a great experience and I look forward to returning to Falls Festival!
